With the 1st Anniversary of my 25th Birthday* approaching in less than a week I've spent some time thinking about where I was when I turned 20 and where I've been & what I've been doing since then. I've moved several times, had a child, moved some more, changed 50 million diapers, landed the best job EVER after several not so great jobs, fallen in love, had my heart broken, lost & rediscovered my faith, tried sushi & loved it, tried yoga & loved it even more than sushi, watched friends get married, successfully potty trained J, watched friends' younger siblings get married, drank my copious amounts of wine, went on my first offshore fishing trip, made & lost friends, leaned on my family to get me through hard times, rediscovered my love of photography, fishing and painting, and so much more.
In the spirit of gaining another year's worth of experience (I refuse to call it getting older) I've been thinking about the things I'd like to accomplish over not only the next year but over the next four.
Without further ado, my 30 by 30 list.
.) Learn to speak conversational Spanish fluently.
.) Be completely "bad debt" free.
.) Complete Project 365.
.) Become a certified Yoga instructor.
.) Buy myself a New car.
.) Run a 5K.
.) Take J skiing.
.) Take J to Africa for a safari trip.
.) Have at least one of my photographs on display in an art gallery.
.) Blog everyday for a year.
.) Reupholster my couch & love-seat myself. (Well, w/ help from my gma.)
.) Visit New York City: MOMA, Broadway, Times Square, Central Park.
.) See the Nutcracker Ballet again. (I haven't since I was a little girl.)
.) Learn to drive a tractor.
.) Learn to launch a boat.
.) Learn to successfully haul & back a trailer.
.) Make one new dish per week for a year.
.) Create & successfully implement a budget.
.) Take one trip where I completely shut off all forms of communication. (Internet, Texting, Calls.)
.) Plant a garden.
.) Try escargot.
.) Get a puppy.
.) Finish college.
.) Throw my parents a fabulous anniversary party.
.) Visit my family on Long Island.
.) Write a book. Even if no one but my mom reads it.
.) Send snail mail once per week. Cards, letters, postcards, etc. for a whole year.
.) Read one book per week for a year.
.) Buy a house.
.) Take Josh camping. Even if it's just in our yard.
So there you have it. My 30 by 30 list, which I'll be crossing off as I accomplish each item. And hopefully blogging about each experience as I go.
What's on your 30 by 30 list? Or what do you wish you'd done before you turned 30?
*I politely refuse to have birthdays for the next 4 years. I will be referring to the day of my birth in the year 2010 as the 1st Anniversary of my 25th Birthday.
I love it! Let me know if you want some advice for #2, #6, and #18 . . . I'm currently working on #2 and #18 right now . . and there are lots of great tips to get started on #6 online! :)
